League: Coventry Mens Division 3 2015/16
Hunters Cov 1 vs Whitestone 1
The captain returns!
After putting in some great performances during Steve’s absence, the team welcomed their captain back into the fold.
To begin with we were unsure as to the standard of our opposition but after seeing the knock ups we knew we had a couple of pairs to watch.
Michael and Aseem stood up as first pair once again and took all three rubbers with the last one against their third pair (actually their best pair) being a stonker of a rubber to watch and took it after a good three game fight.
Simon and Steve went out as a new second pair with good form and took two rubbers, losing out to the opposing third pair after two very close games.
Phil and Shahid went out as third pair and took all three rubbers again stumbling a touch with their tricky third pair.
A great team effort all round for a 8 – 1 victory. Things are looking positive for the season going forward.
Hunters Cov 1 vs Stockingford 1
Hunters 1st team (Coventry League) played their first home match of the season, hosting Stockingford 1st of Nuneaton, at Bilton School. David Pugh stepped into the team for the first time, and paired with Michal Helis for the initial rubber. Stockingford’s first pair were very strong, and took the first comfortably. Hunter’s second pair of Lee Rickard and Simon Piercy, and the third pair of Phil Pelton and Shahid Mirza fared better, both winning their opening rubbers.
The fourth rubber matched Lee and Simon against Stockingford’s first pair, and despite winning a game, Stockingford took the rubber in the decider. However the next two rubbers went to Hunters, putting Hunters in a 4-2 lead, and needing one more rubber for victory. In the seventh, Phil and Shahid fought a close match, but again Stockingford’s first pair were stronger in the decider, moving the score to 4-3.
In the eighth, Michal and David won a tough game, securing the win for Hunters, and Simon and Lee comfortably won the last rubber to make it convincing 6-3 victory on the night.
