Remembering Tom Marsh

Dear members and friends of Hunters Badminton Club,

We are saddened to hear the media reports from Chile regarding the passing of former member of the club, and our friend, Professor Tom Marsh. Tom has been missing since late September whilst on a scientific research visit at Chile’s La Silla Observatory in the Atacama desert.

We extend our deepest condolences and best wishes to Tom’s family and friends at what will be a very difficult time.

Tom was a member of the club for many years and regular attendee of our club nights. He also played for our league teams.

Most will remember Tom as being a skilled and dedicated player, and a complete gentleman. He will also be fondly remembered by some for his unusual drinking receptacles, ranging from milk bottles to olive oil bottles. To my knowledge, he is the only person to be spoken to by centre staff about bringing a wine bottle (containing water) onto the premises!

To mark our respect we will be holding a minute’s silence during club night on Thursday 17th November so we can take a moment to reflect on our memories of Tom. This will be done at 8.30pm and a whistle will be blown to mark the start and finish. During this time we ask all members to allow those who wish to reflect to do so.

If anyone wishes to send any personal messages to the family, please contact JP who is in contact with Tom’s family and we can find the best way to send those on.

Kind regards,

Steve Turner

Chairman
